About This Game
With the release of Arkham Asylum GOTY with Steamworks, a lot of us were hoping that Rocksteady would take the time to provide us with the not-so-exclusive DLC that came with the Mac version, the PS3 version, and (partially) the Xbox 360 version. Yet again, we were left out. This would have been the perfect opportunity to show some love to the PC community, but alas, we were ignored. Some of us attempted to contact Rocksteady via e-mail, message, Facebook, and Twitter. Unfortunately, we were ignored.
Thankfully, a few dedicated modders have refused to give up. Thanks to the efforts originally by "Floobagop" and later by "catspaw," we now have the ability to play the complete version of Arkham Asylum on PC. This includes the "Play as the Joker" pack, which includes 8 challenge maps, and was released originally for PS3 and later for Mac. This also includes the "Prey in the Darkness" challenge maps that were released for EVERY OTHER PLATFORM besides PC. It sucks that the developers and publisher refuse to view the PC platform as equals, when in reality, the PC version of the game looks the best and received special treatment in the Physx department from NVIDIA and Rocksteady.
Anyway, the process of adding the DLC to you game involves acquiring some files that are exclusively found on the Mac version of the game. You can view Floobagop's original thread (You CAN play as the Joker on PC!) for detailed instruction on how to extract these files from a LEGAL Mac copy of the game. I will NOT share the files here, so don't ask. Find them yourselves.
The process mentioned in the thread above will allow you to use the DLC in the non-GOTY edition. Unfortunately, the GOTY has several packages of files that are modified from the non-GOTY edition, and Rocksteady intentionally disabled the configuration parameters that previously allowed this to work. A skilled modder called catspaw has dedicated several days of work to tracing down ways to enable the Joker content without the ability to do so in a configuration file. Once he discovered the solution to this, testing proved that several of the challenge map files that work with the non-GOTY edition would have to be modified so pointers that were included in the non-GOTY maps would now point to their new locations in the GOTY texture archives. Remarkably, catspaw figured all of this out on his own, and we owe him our gratitude.
